Andrew Meredith

Born in Truro, Nova Scotia,
Andrew’s passion for painting evolved while surrounded by
the colours of farming, forestry and fishing.

Andrew portrays simple porches, flowers and tiny villages
that are truly picturesque. With strong composition and a
wide range of tonal values, Andrew’s watercolours are vivid
and full of life.
As a child, Andrew loved to paint and would continuously
capture his view and the beauty of the world on watercolour
paper. Ashe grew, so did his love for painting and the
desire to become an artist using various mediums to showcase
his talent.
Andrew’s work has been featured at the Moose Jaw Cultural
Centre and on a rotational exhibit featuring southern
prairie artists at the Shurniak Art Gallery in Assiniboia,
Saskatchewan. He has been commissioned to paint numerous
pieces for charitable and corporate organizations.
Andrew currently lives in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan
where he works and paints. His work can be found
throughout Canada, England and the United States.
From Canada’s East coast to the Saskatchewan prairies,
Andrew is emerging as a brilliant watercolour artist. |

The Moose Jaw Times Herald
On one wall of the Moose Jaw Cultural Centre, there is a scene
of Peggy’s Cove in Nova Scotia.
The quintessential East Coast town at the height of summer
is rendered in watercolour paints, from the point of view of the
ocean looking towards the rocks dotted with houses.
On another wall, a scene from Western Canada jumps out, and
Moose Jaw particularly: A depiction of the Brunswick Hotel on
River Street.
Both were painted by Andrew Meredith, an artist who lives in
Moose Jaw but grew up in Great Village, N.S.
A collection of his paintings, or prints or transfers from
original paintings, are currently on display at the cultural
centre. It is his second show at the centre.
Places he’s encountered in both Western and Eastern Canada
both inspire his artwork.
“The Peggy’s Cove scene was painted from a picture I took
while I was visiting in July,” explained Meredith.
“For the Brunswick Hotel, I wanted to represent visually a
piece of Moose Jaw’s historic charm.”
A canvas transfer of the Brunswick Hotel painting was
auctioned at the recent Festival of Trees, raising $4,700 for
the Moose Jaw Health Foundation. Meredith donated the transfer.
Another of Meredith’s creations helped another organization
this year.
The Regina Adult Learning Centre chose one of his paintings,
made prints of it, and give them to the centre’s supporters to
thank them for their investments.
The painting is called “Home of Many Paths,” showing part of
an older country home, with flowers in front, next to a path
winding through the grass.
“I chose a nice home, a warm, inviting home, and a path
going by to represent what many of the people who attend the
adult learning centre, and the supporters of the centre are
trying to do: mend paths, build bridges and start a new way for
themselves.”
Meredith doesn’t always paint realistic depictions of
scenes.
One painting, “Believe,” of Christmas elves, came right from
his imagination.
Meredith’s work is on display at the cultural centre until
Jan. 17.

An art business
venture
Andrew Meredith, an artist who lives in Moose Jaw, sells a lot
of his work in Nova Scotia.
Meredith returns to Nova Scotia, the province where he grew
up, each summer for more scene inspiration and to sell some of
his paintings.
He currently has a collection of paintings and prints on
display at the Moose Jaw Cultural Centre.
Meredith’s grandparents operate a store in Highland Village,
N.S., where he sells his work.
But next summer he hopes to do some direct selling of his
own. While visiting in July, he and his family members moved an
old cottage close to his grandparents’ store and began
renovating it.
Next summer, it should be ready for Meredith to stock with
artwork to sell.
But he still plans on coming back to Moose Jaw, which he now
considers home.
Meredith’s original paintings and framed prints are also on
display at Emerald Glass & Gallery in Moose Jaw, where they are
for sale.

Artist Gives Back to the Community
Andrew was pleased to support the Moose Jaw Health Foundation and
the Festival of Trees in Moose Jaw on November 22, 2008 by
donating “Home for the Holidays” and “The Brunswick”. The two
paintings generated almost $6000.00 in live auction bids. All
monies raised during the events will support the revitalization of
the Intensive Care Unit at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital.
“The Brunswick” Unveiled
Preserving Moose Jaw‘s history is always important and Andrew is
pleased to unveil “The Brunswick”. The proposed changes to
downtown Moose Jaw’s River Street will result in the demolition of
one of Moose Jaw’s oldest and grandest buildings. “The Brunswick”
